Interesting Article on MyCokeRewards

May 28, 2007 · 5 comments

Yesterday’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution ran an interesting article about the MyCokeRewards program.
The article talks about Coke’s use of the program to gain information on 5 million of their customers. The company uses “cutting-edge database technology to collect, enhance and analyze what marketers call ‘psychographic’ information about its members. Unlike demographic information —- age, residence, race —- psychographic data include likes, dislikes and interests.”
For instance, they examine your site searches, your redemptions, and your answers to optional surveys, and then make conclusions about your interests…which allows them to target offers to people who are more likely to respond.
Here are some interesting stats featured in the article:
Time the average user spends on the site: 9 MINUTES
A new user registers every: 5 SECONDS
Registered users: 5.2 MILLION
Number of point codes entered: 7 PER SECOND

Yes, the average user spends 9 minutes on the site since they do not realize not everyone has a brand new windows XP computer that runs super fast. It takes me 9 minutes just to enter one code with the new flash! I wish they had a slow speed version!

Kara, have you tried text messaging your Coke rewards code? Although you might have to set up your account once at the flash-heavy website, once it’s set you can text in codes and not worry about signing into the site. It works for me…

It takes 9 minutes just to load the initial screen. Flash can really s*^C and I don’t really need to be reminded that I drank 12000 ounces of Coke!
