There was an interesting article in yesterday’s Salt Lake Tribute about “charity” rewards programs and whether or not members’ earnings actually make it to the charity. Some points worth repeating: there is no oversight over these programs and no way to tell if the money actually is sent where you intended, and purchases made through these programs are NOT tax-deductible. Good advice from the article: shop from the merchant with the cheapest price and manually donate the difference to charity (THAT amount would be tax-deductible).
