Give Me a Friggin’ Break, MyCoupons!

January 31, 2004 · 4 comments

According to this post – http://boards.mycoupons.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=437053 – now on MyCoupons’ deal forums, you are not allowed to post a deal and follow it with “remember to shop through such-and-such rewards programs to get your rebate.” They consider that to be advertising. (?)
MyCoupons’ forums have become less and less responsive to meeting its users needs and more focused on making money for its parent company. See, if you follow up a deal post with “hey, don’t forget to go through Ebates for an extra 4% back!”, then you won’t shop through MC’s link…and they won’t receive any money. Forget the fact that WE don’t get paid for shopping through MC. Only MC does.
MyCoupons has long had a reputation of being THE premier source of information for online deals. They have been around quite a long time (I’ve been a member there myself since ’99). But the level of censorship there has grown to a point where it’s simply not a viable forum for sharing information USEFUL TO ITS MEMBERS. Maybe it’s arrogance, maybe it’s tighter budgets and more competition, but this is simply ridiculous and it’s getting to the point where the only posts allowed are going to be ads for MyCoupons’ shopping links.
My suggestion is that if you want information USEFUL TO YOU, versus info that will only lead to profits for MyCoupons, you seek out other forums that allow more free flow of information. Perhaps when MyCoupons’ staff sees that its progressively restrictive posting rules are frightening off users, they will become more responsive to their USERS’ needs.
If you have other forum suggestions, please post their links below in a comment.

Try cadms.net. A lot of members are from MC so I’ve heard all about the drama from those folks. I love cadms.net. I find great shopping deals, printalbe coupons, free stuff, contests and sweepstakes, health information, recipies and jokes to keep your sanity. I’m not getting paid to tell you how great it is otherwise I would keep writing. :D

My husband and I worked very hard to bring cadms (coupons and deals multi-state) to users across the United States.
We became a member-supported site in October 2003 because the cost of our server is over $40 a month, and like many families, we are struggling to make ends meet.
Members pay 97 cents a month either in stamps or paypal or other arrangements made with us. We are not unreasonable.
You will find 65 forums in which to participate and it is more secure than Fort Knox (because of the fact we want to keep bad traders out).
We are friendly, and caring, and listen to our members needs.
80% of CADMS members were formally from RMC (another pay site, except they are well over $20 a year) and MyCoupons.
There are NO advertising popups and NO banners proclaiming “you’re a winner”.
Unlike MyCoupons, you can make your posts as long as you wish–if you have the time to type that long, then we have the time to read it.
We do not flame one another, we support each other in our endeavors, whatever they may be. We have “long-time” couponers and we have “omg, I’m so lost” couponers–we HELP each other.
I offer my members a challenge EVERY month, if they guess the right numbers, they receive a featured piece of Tupperware from me….FREE.
Please take the time to check us out, I believe that you will find us to be a very welcoming community.

The “new” look.
to be quite honest… IT SUCKS
page only loads three quarters of the width of the screen on the left… leaving a HUGE blank space to the right of the screen and the new look certainly doesn’t affect the time it takes the load the pages. I am on cable and it still either doesn’t load without refreshing 20 thousand times, or gets stuck to the point I ctrl+alt+delete and start over again.
Improving the bandwidth would have been better than a new look!

I was searching for coupons tonight and this page link somehow came up. I see this “message” is over four years old but I also agree on the above comments.
I have been a member at MC for many years as well. It has lots of ads and the deals are just not there anymore. I rarely post there now. It used to be a fun place where everyone was helpful and friendly. Now, you have to watch what you say and how or be flamed into the fire pit-LOL.
I have never heard of the site mentioned above until just now but will look it up. Some long time MC members can also be found at this site:
http://www.yourcoupons.notlong.com It is also FREE.
I am not a member there but a friend told me about it last night. I recognize a lot of people and it seems like a friendly and helpful board. I think I will get the nerve to register and post to say hello!
I think people should be helpful to one another in trying ot save money. Money is the same as a rubber band-depends how much you stretch it-LOL!
