Welcome, MSN Money Readers!

I want to wish a warm welcome and hearty hello to the folks visiting the site today due to the kind mention by Donna Freedman in her wonderful MSN Money article, “Free gift cards — yes, really!”

CompareRewards has been up and reviewing points and cashback shopping programs since October of 2001, so I’ve been at this for quite a while.  I had to figure out a way to make ends meet after leaving my job to be a SAHM and these rewards programs helped me to do just that.  Do they pay my house note?  No.  But do they pay my water bill and give me some spending money I wouldn’t otherwise have, for birthdays, the holidays, and the occasional date night?  YES!

Here’s the low-down on some of the programs mentioned in the article, and please note that all of these are totally free to join, and you can earn rewards without spending a penny:

MyPoints Founded in 1996, they’re owned by the same company as FTD and Classmates.com.  Complete a profiler on the site and you’ll receive as many as 3 or 4 emails a day worth 5 points each.  Complete surveys and do searches to earn additional points.  Gift cards start at 1600 points for $10 (many national retailers to choose from).   Avoid shopping through their site, because you’ll earn a LOT more through other programs!

Swagbucks:  Since 2008, members have earned Swagbucks, redeemable for gift cards and merchandise in various ways:  completing surveys, tasks, and polls, entering SwagCodes, completing offers, watching videos, and random awards given out for using their search engine or playing their flash games.  Earn when your friends earn, too!

QuickRewards.net Founded in 2001, QR offers daily surveys and additional opportunities based on your profile.  Earn for completing tasks and special offers, reading emails, visiting websites, playing games, and shopping online, too.  Cash out to PayPal any time (no minimum required) or for emailed or snail-mailed gift cards.  If you do other survey sites, clear your cookies before visiting QR or attempting their emails.

Superpoints:  This is an invitation-only site (see my Superpoints Invitations post for a link to join, or email me for one).  Relaunched in October, Superpoints lets members earn points redeemable for gift cards, PayPal, or merchandise, for reading emails, completing tasks and offers, clicking the Super Lucky Button, and referring your friends.
